    Final project progress: Carleton’s traditions

This week I went with Kaylin to a meeting with Nat Wilson from the Library Archives to get help finding sources for the project. I also started the traditions spreadsheet and continued to work on shortlisting the traditions of interest with my project’s mates in today’s class. We also collectively wrote the blog post on the class’s site. So far, it was a productive week, and we have made significant progress. This week, I’m in charge of creating the TimelineJS template and sharing it in the project folder.

Final project: Carleton’s Traditions Over the Decades

Our final project, Carleton’s Traditions Over the Decades, is focused on creating a Timeline and StoryMap of notable Carleton traditions. I think the project has great potential and it is extremely interesting to me. When I was deciding whether to apply to Carleton, I remember browsing through the college’s traditions and thinking that there were really unique and exciting. With this project, I hope to get experience with a more extensive digital humanities project, working as a team, finding sources, and using TimelineJS, SketchUp and ArcGis.

    Squirrels in Central Park

The map below is a map of squirrels seen in Central park based on a New York Times article, made using ArcGIS. I used several features and options, like layers, custom images, custom maps, and different techniques. The map was made with data from the SquirrelData.csv file on Github. I also assigned a label to each squirrel, so we know which one is adult or child. Overall, making my first map in ArcGIS was a fun experience.
